   Кing’s Square

The construction of Kapetan Miša’s building took five years and it was finished in 1863 as a impressive palace designed by the Czech Jan Nevola. The shaping of facades was particularly detailed, especially of the ones towards the square, where most window openings have arched endings. The façade is eclectic, with a number of motifs in different styles, where elements of the German romanticism and the early renaissance from northern Italy predominate.

Wherever somebody starts digging in the centre of Belgrade, remains of the Roman Singidunum are uncovered. This has happened many times. In the north-western area of the park a well-preserved remains of the Roman baths within a civilian neighbourhood were discovered. According to the stylistic characteristics of the found items, coins and ceramics in the baths and around them, as well as from the way they were built, it was concluded that they date back to the 3rd century AD. In the nearby marketplace, between Kapetan Miša’s and the philosophy faculty buildings, remains of a Roman building from the periods ranging from 1st to half of 3rd century AD were discovered during archaeological excavations.
